LOGINventory 4.5
Support
If you use multiple installations, it is important to refresh all existing LOGINventory installations in case of an update! For execution within logon script always the current version of LOGINfo.exe is required.
LOGINventory 4 can be installed parallel to LOGINventory 3.20 Build 7. LOGINventory 4 must be installed into its own directory. LOGINexport exports data from the version 3 database in the data directory of version 4. LOGINventory Version 3 has to be installed and configured for this to work.
  After the export is finished you insert the data with LOGINsert in the version 4 database.
Version 3 and 4 data files are not exchangeable because LogInfo version 4 uses another kind of coding, which cannot be decoded by version 3.
  LOGINventory 4 can be used with LOGINventory 3 licence keys. Please install your version 3 licence key in order to acquire all your computers.
  For execution within logon script, don’t forget to substitute LpcInfo by LOGINfo or LOGINfoW (without status messages). Please also modify the LOGINfo data directory parameter. For “User defined Rules” the file LOGINfo.ini in the LOGINventory 4 installation directory must be edited. The syntax of LpcInfo.ini is the same as of the old LOGINfo.ini.
For installation on Windows NT4, additional components are demanded. Please copy the components into the installation directory. If these are already installed, you can apply the 2k/XP setup. In case of an update also only the 2k/XP setup is required.
To uninstall LOGINventory versions prior 3.11, the respective LOGINventory.msi is required. Collected data and registration-keys survive.
LOGINventory and Windows XP Service Pack 2
If you use Windows XP SP2 in your domain, you should configure the Windows Firewall
to ensure a maximum security level;
to prevent useless limitations on administration.
LOGINventory uses the following methods for inventory:
Ping (ICMP)
Remote Registry based on File and Print Services
WMI based on RPC (optional)
All these methods are suppressed by the default settings of the Windows Firewall. Our whitepaper will help to adjust your clients.  ]
